Background

E. Stephen Buescher, M.D., is a Professor of Pediatrics and a member of the Division of Pediatric Basic Sciences. He joined EVMS in 1992 and since that time he has directed a laboratory focused on the studies related to inflammation, its cellular and humoral components, and the anti-inflammatory characteristics of human milk.

Dr. Buescher practices Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters and is on the faculty of Eastern Virginia Medical School. He has a clinical interest in phagocyte functional disorders, and is active in medical student teaching as the Director of the MSII Pathophysiology Course and as a lecturer and laboratory preceptor in the MSII Microbiology & Immunology course. He also teaches General Pediatrics (3rd year students) and Pediatric Infectious Diseases (4th year medical students). He is the Director of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Fellowship Training Program at Eastern Virginia Medical School, and the Medical Director of Infection Control and the Clinical Microbiology laboratory at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters

Research Interests

Dr. Buescher's laboratory is currently focused on the characterization and identification of nosocomial infection-related organisms at CHKD, infectious diseases in children and their sequellae
